The scope of the works the breakout of the existing slab, excavation of the sub-base down to a minimum of 1m or to suitable ground and backfilling with new sub-base material. TR Civil Engineering Ltd then would prepare and relay the concrete slab using a stronger specialist concrete to ensure a longer use life.

During the works, a redesign was required due to on-site findings by TR Civil Engineering Ltd. This included additional meshwork as well as an additional tying in detail. We proceed ahead of schedule and prepared the area with the mesh and tying in bars into the exiting slab. The redesign also raised the floor level to ac-
commodate the remaining slabs from the retaining walls.

The new floor slab was poured using a micro silica and fibre concrete which TR Civil Engineering Ltd has experience with using on other sites around the North West where there was a similar need for a hard wearing surface. The mix design for the concrete also provides a fast curing time and so the floor can be returned to service sooner, minimising the disruption to the client. The floor was poured into three sections over three days with the slab being finished and sealed to allow the client to return to normal operations.
